Dr Trys Burke is a Researcher at the School of Health Sciences, Bangor University, specializing in health and wellbeing through peer support, nature-based interventions, and outdoor adventurous activities. She joined the faculty in 2022 to teach the third-year module Outdoor and Adventure Therapy. Previously, she worked as an external instructor for water-based modules in Adventure Sport Science. Her PhD focuses on health and wellbeing, building on an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology (2015).
Education: BA Sports, Health, and Physical Education (Bangor University, 1993); PGCE (1994); BCU Level 5 Coach (Sea Kayak, 1999); Winter Mountain Leader qualification (1998).
Research Interests: Peer support mechanisms, nature’s role in mental health, and the therapeutic value of adventurous activities across populations. Active in the Institute for Wellbeing Research and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and environmental sustainability.
Teaching: Module organizer for Outdoor and Adventure Therapy and water-based adventure sports modules. Supervises student projects linking outdoor activities with wellbeing.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Institute for Wellbeing Research at Bangor University.
