Dr. Trynke Hoekstra is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds an MBA in International Business specializing in academic leadership and entrepreneurship. Her research focuses on healthy lifestyle promotion for people with disabilities, global public health in remote areas, and methodological advancements in longitudinal health trajectory analysis. She teaches epidemiology and biostatistics across undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (SDG 3) and reducing inequalities (SDG 10). Key research projects include scaling community health entrepreneurship in Uganda and investigating physical activity trajectories among older adults. She has been recognized with awards like the KNOWVU Award (2024) and Outstanding Reviewer Contributions (2021–2023).
Dr. Hoekstra collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and leads projects such as 'Scaling Up Community Health Entrepreneurship' (2023–2027). She has advised on multiple PhD theses and serves on editorial boards, including the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.
