Trygve Willassen

Trygve Willassen is a Lecturer at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Research Group for Nanoelectronic Systems. His work focuses on Internet architecture, transport layer protocols, and networking standards. He has led the IETF Transport Services (TAPS) Working Group and chaired the IRTF Internet Congestion Control Research Group (ICCRG) from 2006 to 2017. His contributions include over a dozen RFCs, including foundational standards for transport protocols, congestion control, and network security.

Willassen's research emphasizes practical implementations, such as inspiring the RACK-TLP loss recovery algorithm (widely deployed in Linux and Windows) and the ABE congestion control mechanism in FreeBSD. He contributed to European projects like RITE, NEAT, and PRISTINE, advancing transport services and recursive networking architectures.
