Trygve Skaar

Trygve Skaar is an Adjunct Faculty member teaching Tuba at the University of St. Thomas and Gustavus Adolphus College. He also serves as Assistant Conductor of the Grand Symphonic Winds and performs with the Compass Rose Brass Ensemble. With 24 years of military service including commanding the 34th Infantry Division Band in Iraq, he combines artistic and leadership expertise.

His education includes music studies at Bethel University and the University of Minnesota under instructors including Ross Tolbert and David Fedderly.

Research focuses on music pedagogy and brass performance techniques. Performance experience spans the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, and international brass band festivals.

Currently works for the Department of Veterans Affairs while maintaining teaching positions across multiple institutions including Macalester College and Northwestern University.
