Tristan Caulfield is an Associate Professor in the Information Security Group at the Department of Computer Science, University College London. His research focuses on modeling systems at all scales using interdisciplinary approaches from security economics, game theory, and systems modeling to analyze organizational security policies, policy impacts, and complex systems. He teaches the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics of Security and Privacy on UCL's InfoSec MSc program and is a member of the iDRAMA Lab.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science (University of Bath, thesis on game theory for wireless MAC protocols)
- Postdoctoral Research: Economics department at Bath (cloud computing modeling and mutual fund analysis)
Research Interests:
- Systems modeling for cybersecurity policy evaluation and organizational resilience
- GDPR compliance and regulatory effectiveness
- IoT security and user behavior analysis
- Co-design approaches for security support systems
- Agent-based epidemiological simulations (e.g., JUNE model)
- Analysis of disinformation and state-sponsored online activities
Recent work highlights the intersection of policy decisions and technical systems, including studies on post-GDPR business resilience and the psychological impacts of pandemic stressors on healthcare workers. His modeling frameworks address both cyber-physical systems and socio-technical interactions.
