Trinh T. Minh-ha is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Departments of Gender and Women's Studies and Rhetoric. She has held academic positions at institutions including Cornell University, Harvard University, and universities in Japan and South Korea. Her work spans filmmaking, literary writing, and music composition, deeply rooted in postcolonialism, feminism, and cultural critique. Minh-ha’s research focuses on the intersections of global displacement, gender, and identity, informed by her experiences growing up in wartime Vietnam and her transnational education in music, ethnomusicology, and francophone literature.
Her renowned films include *What About China?* (2021), *Forgetting Vietnam* (2015), and *Surname Viet Given Name Nam* (1989), which have garnered awards such as the New:Vision Award and Golden Gate Persistence of Vision Award. She has also created multimedia installations like *L’Autre marche* (2006–2009) and authored influential books like *Woman, Native, Other* (1989) and *Cinema Interval* (1999). Minh-ha’s work challenges dominant narratives through experimental forms, emphasizing decolonial perspectives and the fluidity of cultural boundaries.
