Roles: Triana Almeyda is the Director of the UF Astronomy Teaching Observatory, Labs Coordinator, and TA Supervisor at the University of Florida's Department of Astronomy within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She joined the faculty in 2022 as a Researcher.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Astrophysical Sciences and Technology (Rochester Institute of Technology, 2017)
- B.Sc. in Astronomy and B.A. in Physics (University of Florida, 2011)
Research Focus: Specializes in supermassive black holes (SMBHs), active galactic nuclei (AGN), and their roles in galaxy evolution. Utilizes reverberation mapping and time-domain astronomy techniques to study AGN optical/infrared responses and dust echoes in transients like tidal disruption events and supernovae.
Teaching & Outreach: Committed to STEM education, particularly for underrepresented groups, with extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and high-school levels. Leads outreach initiatives to engage young people in astronomy.
Labs/Infrastructure: Oversees operations of UF Astronomy Observatories and manages telescope software optimization, data pipelines, and instrumentation.
