Professor Trevor Ireland is affiliated with the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) at the Australian National University (ANU), where he held the role of Professor from 2008 to 2021. He is also part of the Hayabusa II Joint Science Team and previously served as President of The Meteoritical Society (2017-18). His research focuses on isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry, utilizing ion microprobe technology to study materials at the microscale, including solar system formation processes and terrestrial/extraterrestrial sample analysis.
- Education:
- BSc(Hons), University of Otago (1981)
- PhD, ANU (1987)
His research interests span refractory meteorite components, sulfur isotopes, oxygen isotope analysis, and the provenance of Gondwana rocks. He leads projects on stardust analysis and solar nebula characteristics, contributing to Earth Systems Chemistry research. Publications are accessible via Google Scholar.
As a supervisor, he oversees projects in cosmochemistry and geochemistry, with affiliations to ANU’s Jaeger 5 Building (Room 2.12). His work bridges planetary science and geochemical methodologies, emphasizing microscale isotopic investigations.
