Trenton W. Wilson is an Assistant Professor of Chinese Intellectual History in the Department of East Asian Studies at Princeton University. His research focuses on the intellectual, cultural, and political history of early China, particularly examining debates around trust and suspicion, institutional frameworks like bureaucracy and law, and the evolution of classical Chinese thought.

Research Interests: Professor Wilson investigates connections between intellectual discourse and institutional practices in early China (3rd century BCE–3rd century CE), including surveillance, punishment systems, and amnesty protocols. He utilizes excavated legal documents alongside traditional texts to analyze topics like political ethics, the role of luck, and medieval intellectual movements such as "Mystery Learning" (xuanxue). His work also addresses modern interpretations of early Chinese political thought and historiography.
