Trenton Holliday is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Tulane University. He earned his B.A. (1988) from Louisiana State University and M.A. (1991) and Ph.D. (1995) in anthropology from the University of New Mexico.
As a paleoanthropologist, Holliday focuses on fossil hominins across multiple time periods, with particular emphasis on the origins of Homo sapiens and the extinction of Neandertals (Homo neanderthalensis). His work also explores the emergence of the genus Homo, interspecific hybridization in mammals, and the application of calcium isotope analysis to dietary reconstruction.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in Neandertal dietary strategies (via calcium isotopes), 3D reconstructions of Pleistocene sites, and comparative studies of hominin anatomy. Articles such as Diverse bone-calcium isotope compositions in Neandertals (2024) and Sex estimation of the adult Neandertal Regourdou 1 (2024) reflect his methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approach.
