Trent Kim is a Glasgow-based South Korean Scottish artist and full-time lecturer in New Media Art at the University of the West of Scotland since 2016. He holds multiple degrees including a PhD (part-time, Royal College of Art) researching Thomas Wilfred’s Lumia as a postdramatic theatre schema via a 'mythopoetic prototyping' methodology. His work bridges art, technology, and historical practice, focusing on light as a medium for revealing human experiences.
Education: BA Stage Management (Queen Margaret University), MA Advanced Stage & Screen (Queen Margaret U), MRes Creative Practice (Glasgow School of Art), PGCert Higher Education Teaching (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland).
Research focuses on Lumia’s legacy as an independent art form, blending historical analysis with creative practice. He organizes international Lumia symposia (2017-2018) and co-leads the Paisley School of Arts project (funded by Renfrewshire Council). His outputs explore light’s role in performance, embodiment, and cultural memory.
Advisory roles include board membership at Vanishing Point and the Scientific Committee of xCoAx. He has guest lectured globally at institutions like Yale University and Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
