Treena Gillespie Finney

Dr. Treena Gillespie Finney is a Professor of Management at the Mitchell College of Business, University of South Alabama. Since joining the faculty in 2007, she has focused on leadership dynamics, HR practices, and organizational behavior. Her prior industry experience includes roles in Organizational Effectiveness at United Airlines World Headquarters and as Manager of HR Research at Disneyland Resort.

• Education: Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (DePaul University), M.S. in Applied Psychology (Clemson University), B.A. in Psychology (Clemson University)

Research Interests: Dr. Finney’s work explores the “dark side” of leadership, including abusive supervision and toxic leadership. She investigates employee motivation, international HR challenges, and customer-directed counterproductive behaviors. Her publications emphasize cross-cultural applicability of HR constructs, selection science, and legal/historical aspects of affirmative action.

Publications Trends: Recent works bridge HR management, organizational psychology, and legal studies, with a focus on empirical analysis in global contexts (e.g., China) and evidence-based selection methodologies in education.
