Travis Welt

Travis Welt is an Associate Professor and Chair of Civil Engineering at the University of St. Thomas, School of Engineering. He holds a PhD and MS in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BS in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Seattle University.

Dr. Welt's research focuses on structural engineering, with particular expertise in structural steel design, reinforced concrete design, timber design, and structural engineering under high seismicity. His work also explores structural welded joints, mass timber hybrid applications, and structural welding performance and generative design. He has extensive experience in both academic research and practical engineering applications, having worked on projects ranging from single-family residential design to floating offshore production facilities.

His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on structural integrity, with particular attention to concrete structural walls, welded joint performance, and timber-concrete composite systems. Over the past decade, his research has evolved from fundamental studies of concrete behavior to more applied research on construction materials and methods, with increasing emphasis on sustainable and innovative structural systems.
