Tracy Levett-Jones is a Distinguished Professor and Professor of Nursing Education at the University of Technology Sydney's School of Nursing and Midwifery. She holds multiple prestigious appointments including Conjoint Professor at Monash University and Visiting Professor positions at several international institutions including the University of Leicester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and previously at University of Leuven, Oxford Brookes University, Keele University, and University of Southampton.
Her academic credentials include a PhD in Nursing from the University of Newcastle (2002-2006), a Master's in Education & Work from Macquarie University (1999-2000), and a Bachelor of Nursing from Avondale College of Higher Education (1993-1995). She is also a Registered Nurse with certification dating back to 1978-1981.
Professor Levett-Jones is recognized as a world-leading researcher in nursing education, evidenced by her induction into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2022 and being ranked among the World's top 1% of scientists in nursing by Stanford University in 2021. Her research spans several critical areas including patient safety, planetary health, empathy, clinical reasoning, and healthcare simulation. She has pioneered innovative educational approaches including virtual communities, museums, websites, and games that have transformed nursing education.
Her extensive publication record includes over 250 works since 2004, with recent focus on planetary health and climate change in nursing education. Her research demonstrates a clear trajectory toward integrating environmental sustainability with healthcare practice, emphasizing the nurse's role in addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. She has developed influential frameworks for clinical reasoning and patient safety that are now used in nursing curricula across Australia, New Zealand, and internationally.

Her funded research projects span areas of planetary health, empathy development, patient safety, and clinical reasoning in nursing education.
She co-convenes the Faculty of Health Climate and Health Collaborative and leads the development of innovative educational resources including the Virtual Empathy Museum and the 'Healthy Planet, Healthy People' educational board game. Her work with the Empathy Initiative has transformed clinical practice in settings such as refugee services, spinal and stroke units through evidence-based empathy interventions.
