Dr Tracey Mollet serves as a Lecturer in Media and Communication at the School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. She holds key responsibilities as Undergraduate Tutor and Admissions Tutor for the BA in Communication and Media program.
Her academic foundation includes a BA and MA in Modern History, culminating in a PhD that uniquely bridged historical analysis with animation studies through archival research on Disney and Schlesinger Studios' 1930s-1940s cartoons and their commentary on the Great Depression.
Dr Mollet's research centers on ideological analysis of media texts, with particular expertise in Disney animation's relationship to the American dream, propaganda mechanisms in popular culture, and complex serial television narratives. Her work examines Depression-era cultural impacts on film, fairy tales in contemporary media, and directorial legacies of figures like Spielberg and Lucas, with current focus on Netflix's Stranger Things as a case study in modern serial storytelling.
She actively mentors postgraduate researchers including Charlotte Durham and maintains professional engagement through MECCSA membership and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), reflecting her commitment to both scholarly rigor and pedagogical excellence in media education.
