Torunn Melnes is a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo (UiO), affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Nutrition. She is currently completing her PhD candidacy (since 2020) while engaging in academic and clinical roles. Her research focuses on clinical nutrition, lipid metabolism, and cardiovascular disease, particularly in familial hypercholesterolemia and gene expression studies.
Education:

- MSc in Clinical Nutrition, UiO (2013–2018)
- 30 credits in Intercultural Communication, Gimlekollen University College (2012)
Research Interests: Her work integrates metabolomics, lipid profiling, and gene expression analysis to understand cardiovascular disease mechanisms. She explores how genetic and metabolic factors influence disease progression in elderly populations with familial hypercholesterolemia.

Teaching & Leadership: She has lectured for master’s students in Advanced Clinical Nursing and served on the organizing committee for the NutriNOR PhD Conference 2023. Her professional experience includes roles as a clinical dietitian at Molde Hospital and Stavanger University Hospital, alongside research roles at Oslo University Hospital and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
Current Projects: Investigating dietary prevention of cholesterol-induced trained immunity in early atherosclerosis, aligned with the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences’ research priorities.
