Torsten Nygård Kristensen

Torsten Nygård Kristensen is Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University. His research examines evolutionary adaptations in insects, with applications in sustainable food production and conservation.

Research focuses on:

• Insect models for genetic and environmental stress responses
• Black soldier fly breeding for sustainable protein
• Climate adaptation in Arctic arthropods
• Microbiome-host interactions
• Preservation genetics

Current projects investigate thermal tolerance in polar species, genetic improvement of insect livestock, and transgenerational effects of nutritional stress. Applications include developing sustainable insect-based food systems and predicting biodiversity responses to climate change.

Dr. Kristensen leads the Functional Ecology and Genomics group within AAU Arctic research initiative.
