Torild Marie Olsen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Nordic and Media Studies, University of Agder, Norway. With a career spanning since 1998 in academia, she specializes in Norwegian as a Second Language, Conversation Analysis, and Language Environment in Kindergarten.

Her research focuses on language stimulation and learning dynamics in multicultural settings, particularly in kindergartens. She has led projects like Rekomp and Dekomp for competence development in Agder and Kristiansand, and represents UiA in the Nordic network FLIN (Multilingualism in the Nordic Region). Her work bridges curriculum reform (L97 to LK20), multilingualism, and pedagogical innovation.
She has contributed to scientific articles, books, and podcasts like Litt.Snakk, addressing topics such as oral storytelling in inclusive classrooms, language policy for immigrants, and teacher training. In 2018, she received the Anne Hvenekilde Lecture award for her thesis on conversations between staff and multilingual children.
