معرفی
Torgils Fossen is a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Bergen. His research focuses on natural products chemistry, particularly bioactive compounds from plants, with emphasis on cytotoxic agents, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and virology-related proteins. He leads investigations into phytochemical profiling, structural elucidation of novel metabolites, and ecological impacts of plant compounds.
Research spans:
- Isolation of cytotoxic natural products from relict plants (e.g., Osmunda regalis, Cryptomeria japonica)
- Characterization of flavonoids and phenolic compounds in food/herbal sources
- Virological studies on HIV-1 and cytomegalovirus proteins
- Ecological toxicology (e.g., bumblebee mortality linked to Tilia trees)
Recent publications (2017–2024) show strong trends in:
- Phytochemical discovery from endangered/medicinal plants
- Structure-function analysis of viral proteins
- Bioactivity-guided isolation of anticancer/toxic compounds
- Metabolite profiling of Norwegian/Brazilian flora
He collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams, including the Bioresources and Pharmaceutical Chemistry research group. No awards or student advisories are documented.
