Tore Nesset is a Professor of Russian Linguistics at the University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway since 2004. He has held visiting positions at Princeton University (2017–2018), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2011–2013), University of California at San Diego (2001), and University of Bergen (2007–2008). He was affiliated with the Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics (CASTL) at Tromsø (2003–2012) and previously served as an Associate Professor (1997–2004) and Research Fellow (1993–1996) at the University of Oslo.

Research Interests span Russian linguistics, cognitive linguistics, construction grammar, corpus linguistics, historical and contrastive linguistics, metonymy/metaphor in language and thought, phonology, morphosyntax, and empirical methodologies. His work integrates theoretical and applied approaches, emphasizing digital learning resources and pedagogical innovation.
Scientific Awards and Honors include the FYRTÅRN prize for pedagogical development (2020), "meritorious teacher" recognition at UiT, membership in Academia Borealis, and leadership roles at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
