Additionally, he is an Industry Doctoral Student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, collaborating with the Department of Media Technology and Interaction Design (MiD) on research into Interaction Strategies in Improvised Jazz Duos. Gulz’s research investigates how jazz musicians exchange information during improvised performances, particularly in duo settings. Using Logic Pro X software to transcribe recordings and conduct post-hoc interviews, his work aims to expand jazz improvisation theory beyond traditional scale/harmony frameworks to include real-time artistic decision-making. He has released one CD as a leader and contributed to over 30 others, while also authoring Jazz Arranging (2001), a foundational text on jazz composition techniques.
Notable collaborations include memberships in the Fredrik Ljungkvist Quartet, Jeanette Lindström Quintet, and Magnus Broo Quartet, alongside participation in tours across 20+ countries. His Ph.D. project is supervised by Professor Anders Friberg (KTH), Assistant Professor André Holzapfel (KTH), and Professor Joakim Milder (KMH).
