Professor Torben Moos is a leading academic at Aalborg University's Department of Health Science and Technology under The Faculty of Medicine, where he also serves as Head of Research Group. His work focuses on neurobiological research and drug delivery, with a strong emphasis on the blood-brain barrier, neurodegenerative diseases, and iron metabolism. Moos has been actively involved in projects like 'Targeteret terapi i den hypoksiske og inflammerede blod-hjerne barriere' and 'Epigenetisk regulering af ferroportin i den neurovaskulære enhed,' supported by grants from Aase og Ejnar Danielsens Fond and Scleroseforeningen.
Research Interests: His research spans diverse areas including Niemann-Pick disease therapies, chronic neurodegeneration, gene therapy strategies, and iron homeostasis in neurological contexts. He has pioneered work on transferrin receptor-targeted drug delivery systems and vascular changes in neurodegenerative conditions. His lab's innovations include using AAV vectors for brain endothelial gene therapy and exploring calmodulin variants in schizophrenia.
Publications & Media: With over 166 publications (2025), Moos' work bridges basic science and clinical applications. Recent trends show focus on gene therapy efficacy, BBB-targeted therapies, and biomarker identification. Media highlights include coverage of microplastic infiltration into the brain and iron deficiency treatment in pregnancy.
Advising & Grants: Supervised 6 PhD students and secured funding for projects addressing neurovascular unit dysfunction and therapeutic delivery. Collaborations span institutions globally, emphasizing translational research.
Labs & Teams: Leads the Neurobiological Research and Drug Delivery group at Neuroboost, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to CNS drug delivery and BBB biology. Active in both experimental and clinical translational research.
