Torben Heien Nielsen is a Professor at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Economics and affiliated with the Center for Economic Behavior and Inequality (CEBI). His research bridges health economics, public economics, and applied microeconometrics, focusing on how micro-level health behaviors shape macro-level economic outcomes.
- Education: PhD in Economics (2012, University of Copenhagen), MA (2008), and BA (2005) in Economics.
- Academic Positions: Associate Professor (2019-), Assistant Professor (2014-2019), Postdoc (2012-2014) at University of Copenhagen, and Postdoc at the Danish National Center for Social Research (2012-2013).
His research combines Danish register data with policy reforms to analyze:
- Health behavior and mortality inequality
- Savings policies for old-age security
- Physician labor market skill formation
- Life expectancy-income relationships
