Tor Oiamo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. He leads the Exposure Science and Environmental Health (EXPOSCEN) Lab, which focuses on linking environmental factors like noise and air quality to health outcomes. His research emphasizes exposure assessment through environmental models, population metrics, and simulation systems to evaluate urban changes' health impacts. Collaborations with Health Canada and Toronto Public Health inform policy-oriented environmental decision-making. He teaches courses on environmental decision-making, sustainable development, demography, and environmental health.
Research interests include environmental determinants of health, particularly in vulnerable urban populations, and the intersection of urban design with health equity. His work combines geographical analysis with epidemiological methods to address systemic risks from multiple environmental exposures.
Recent articles highlight trends in noise pollution's effects on cardiovascular health, neurological disorders, and sleep disturbances, alongside studies on urban green spaces and air quality modeling. He has also explored the spatial distribution of health risks, such as restaurant inspection results and breast cancer clustering hypotheses.
While no formal awards are listed, his contributions to environmental health research are evident through his extensive publication record and collaborative projects. Advising efforts are not detailed, but his research involves large-scale cohort studies like the Ontario Population Health and Environment Cohort (ONPHEC). The EXPOSCEN Lab serves as a hub for integrating urban modeling frameworks (e.g., SMARTPLANS) to assess sustainability and health outcomes in Canadian cities.
