Toomas Lott is a Researcher in the Faculty of Philosophy at Uppsala University and holds a Doctor's Degree from the University of Tartu (2012). His career includes roles as a Research Fellow at the University of Tartu’s Institute of Philosophy and Semiotics (2009–2013) and postdoctoral fellowships at New York University (Maria Skłodowska-Curie) and Columbia University (Fulbright). He specializes in the history of philosophy, focusing on ancient Greek thought, particularly Plato and Socratic method.
- Education: BA (1997–2001), MA (2001–2004), and PhD (2004–2009) in philosophy from the University of Tartu.
- Awards: Includes prestigious fellowships from the EU (2015–2018), Fulbright (2013), and DAAD (2012).
His research explores epistemic authority, disagreement, and collaborative inquiry in Plato’s dialogues. He led the EU-funded project SPEA (2015–2018) on Socratic and Platonic conceptions of knowledge. Recent publications include analyses of Plato’s Alcibiades and Theaetetus, emphasizing methodological rigor in philosophical history.
Teaching and supervision: Currently advising Zehao Lyu on a doctoral thesis at Uppsala University. Previously supervised a dissertation on Plato’s Philebus.
