Professor Tony Page is a Professor of Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Host-Parasite Interactions & Pathogenesis. His research focuses on nematode development and genetics using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system to study parasite biology and develop novel anthelmintics. His work also explores extracellular matrix formation, redox balance in the endoplasmic reticulum, protein folding, and aging processes.
Key research interests include understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance in parasitic nematodes and identifying drug targets. He has contributed significantly to studies on collagen processing, metalloproteases, and the role of prolyl hydroxylases in nematode development.
Professor Page has authored over 40 publications, with recent work highlighting the role of intraflagellar transport in macrocyclic lactone resistance and the protective effects of vitamin B12 in C. elegans. His research has been supported by grants from the BBSRC, Wellcome Trust, and MRC, including studies on anthelmintic drug efficacy and redox balance modulation.
He has received prestigious awards such as the MRC Senior Non-clinical Fellowship and has participated in international collaborations, including studies on novel pathogens like Chryseobacterium nematophagum. His lab's work bridges fundamental biology with translational research, aiming to combat parasitic infections through innovative approaches.
