Tony Korman is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medicine at Monash University, affiliated with Monash Health. He serves as Director of Microbiology (since 2006) and Director of Monash Infectious Diseases (2002–2022) at Monash Health. His work focuses on infectious diseases, microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, and vaccination strategies. He has led major clinical trials including the BRACE trial evaluating BCG vaccine efficacy and the SuperbugAi genomic surveillance project.
Research interests include genomic epidemiology of pathogens, novel vaccine development, and hospital infection control. Recent work explores Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) cross-protection against respiratory infections, Clostridioides difficile phylogenetics, and antibiotic resistance patterns in Australia. His projects often involve collaboration with global networks like the NHMRC and multinational pharmaceutical studies.
Dr. Korman has contributed to over 224 peer-reviewed publications since 1994, emphasizing clinical microbiology, outbreak investigations, and diagnostic innovations. He chairs initiatives like the FluCAN influenza surveillance system and has pioneered AI-driven diagnostic tools for urine culture analysis.
