Tony G. Reames serves as an Associate Professor and the Tishman Professor of Environmental Justice at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS). He directs the SEAS Detroit Sustainability Clinic and founded both the Urban Energy Justice Lab and the Energy Equity Project. His work bridges academic research with practical policy applications in environmental and energy justice.
Dr. Reames' research focuses on advancing fair and equitable access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy, with particular attention to energy disparities across race, income, and geography. His scholarship examines the root causes and persistence of energy injustice in urban environments, with emphasis on energy poverty, clean energy access, and policy interventions that address systemic inequities.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on energy justice frameworks, measurement tools for equity in energy policy, and empirical analyses of energy disparities. The research demonstrates growing sophistication in quantifying energy equity and developing decision-support frameworks for policymakers, with increasing attention to community-centered approaches and intersectional analyses of energy vulnerability.
