Tony Bleetman is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, and an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Warwick Medical School. A Consultant in Emergency Medicine, he has extensive experience in pre-hospital care, disaster planning, and enhancing safety in custody environments.
He holds an MD and a PhD in Occupational Health from the University of Birmingham, awarded in 2000 for his work on body armour development.
Dr. Bleetman's research centers on Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Care, with critical focus on Less-lethal Weapons and Safety in Custody Settings. His work develops evidence-based physical intervention protocols for police, prisons, and secure hospitals, directly influencing national policies for CBRN incidents and major disaster response.
His professional recognitions include:
- Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd)
- Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM)
As an academic leader, Dr. Bleetman serves as Programme Lead for Queen Mary's world-first Masters in Safety and Wellbeing of Persons in Care and Custody. He advises the Ministry of Defence via SACMILL and has shaped national emergency planning frameworks through government committees.
He collaborates with the Centre for Neuroscience, Surgery and Trauma at the Blizard Institute and maintains active partnerships with BASICS UK, air ambulance services, and custodial agencies to advance safety standards in high-risk interventions.
