Tong Yui

Dr. Tong Yui serves as Associate Professor and Director of the MA in Creative Writing for Cultural Professionals within the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist University. Previously, he taught at HKBU's Language Centre and The Open University of Hong Kong's Creative Arts Department.

His academic credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Chinese (Comparative Literature) from Fudan University
• Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature from Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris III)
• Bachelor’s Degree in French Literature from Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris III)

Dr. Tong's research bridges Eastern and Western literary traditions through investigations in Modern Chinese Literature, French Literature, and Comparative Literature, with specialized focus on Creative Writing pedagogy, Theatre studies, and Literary Theory. His interdisciplinary approach examines cultural exchanges through both scholarly analysis and creative practice.

Notable recognitions include:

• Winner of The 1st Young Writers’ Debut Competition
• Prize in Novel at The 10th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature (2009) for his acclaimed novel "Footnotes"

He further demonstrates cross-cultural expertise through his French-Chinese translation of "Colporteur" (行腳商), published by East China Normal University Press in 2010. His teaching portfolio encompasses Fiction Writing, Genres of Drama, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Theatre, and Creative Writing workshops.
