Tone Nygaard Flølo

Tone Nygaard Flølo is an Associate Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University's Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing and Health Promotion. She serves as Head of Studies for Area of Responsibility 3 and leads the Quality-of-Life research group. Additionally, she is a research collaborator at Haukeland University Hospital, affiliated with the FatWest project focused on Bariatric Surgery on the West Coast of Norway.

Dr. Flølo's research expertise centers on obesity and quality of life, with particular emphasis on long-term outcomes of obesity treatment across adult and pediatric populations. Her work aims to improve patient care and expand scientific understanding of severe obesity through evidence-based approaches. She is actively developing digital health interventions for obesity management and examining how health literacy impacts intervention effectiveness for children with obesity and their families.

Her recent publication record demonstrates a strong commitment to systematic evidence synthesis, with multiple umbrella reviews and meta-analyses examining obesity interventions, digital health solutions, and quality of life outcomes. Her research spans clinical, educational, and public health domains, reflecting an interdisciplinary approach to addressing obesity as a complex health challenge.

Dr. Flølo serves as course leader for bachelor's theses and regularly supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students on health and quality of life topics. She actively contributes to the research community as a board member of LIVSFORSK (the national research network for quality of life research) and as an associated member of ChildObesity180.

She leads the Quality-of-Life research group at OsloMet's Faculty of Health Sciences, coordinating interdisciplinary research that bridges clinical practice and academic investigation. Through her collaboration with Haukeland University Hospital via the FatWest project, she ensures her research maintains strong connections to real-world healthcare challenges and patient needs.
