معرفی
Dr. Tomás Vicente Ripoll Vera is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), specializing in Cardiology. He serves as Head of the Cardiology Department at Son Llàtzer Hospital since 2003 and coordinates the Familial and Genetic Heart Disease Unit. He is the Principal Investigator of the Balearic Research Group on Genetic Heart Diseases, Sudden Death and TTR Amyloidosis at IdISBa, and co-director of the MUSIB regional program studying sudden death in young people in the Balearic Islands. His academic appointments include teaching Cardiology in the Medical Degree program, as well as instructing in the Master's Degree in Health Law (Genetics and Law) and Master's Degree in Applied Biotechnology (Molecular Diagnosis and Gene Therapy) at UIB.
Dr. Ripoll Vera's educational background includes:
- Graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra (1987-1993)
- Cardiology Specialist via Resident Internship at Hospital U. Son Dureta (1995-1999)
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of the Balearic Islands (2014)
- Specialist in Clinical Management from the Official College of Physicians of the Balearic Islands (2004)
- Master's Degree in Healthcare Management from the European Institute for Health and Welfare (2005)
- Certified Expert in Advanced Echocardiography from the Spanish Society of Cardiology
His research primarily focuses on genetic heart diseases, sudden cardiac death, and TTR amyloidosis. Dr. Ripoll Vera has established the Balearic Research Group dedicated to these conditions and leads the MUSIB program investigating sudden death in young people. His work bridges clinical cardiology with genetic research, particularly in familial heart conditions. He has made significant contributions to understanding the genetic basis of cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias, with emphasis on Mediterranean populations. His research has practical applications in early diagnosis, risk stratification, and family screening protocols for inherited cardiac conditions.
Analysis of his publication record reveals a strong focus on translational research connecting genetic findings with clinical outcomes. His work spans from basic genetic mechanisms to clinical applications in diagnosis and management. Recent publications show increasing emphasis on precision medicine approaches for familial heart diseases, with growing interest in gene therapy applications and advanced imaging techniques for early detection.
Dr. Ripoll Vera has received several prestigious awards:
- 2014 "Jean Dausset" Award from the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Balearic Islands for best doctoral thesis
- 2014 "Damià Carbó" Award from the Scientific Board of Official College of Physicians of Balearic Islands for best research work
- Honorary distinction from Pollensa City Council for research work
As a principal investigator, Dr. Ripoll Vera has led 34 phase III and IV clinical trials and collaborated on 22 competitive national research projects. He serves on the presentation selection committee for major cardiology conferences including the annual congress of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) and the European Congress of the European Society of Cardiology. His teaching spans multiple institutions, where he mentors students in cardiology, genetics, and healthcare management.
Dr. Ripoll Vera directs the Familial and Genetic Heart Disease Unit at Son Llàtzer Hospital, which is accredited by the Spanish Society of Cardiology as "SEC-Quality-Excellent." He leads the Balearic Research Group on Genetic Heart Diseases, Sudden Cardiac Death, and TTR Amyloidosis at IdISBa, which includes multidisciplinary teams of cardiologists, geneticists, molecular biologists, and clinical researchers. His unit collaborates with national networks including CIBEROBN and international organizations like the European Society of Cardiology's Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases.
