Tomás Gold is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University's Watson Institute for International & Public Affairs. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and previously served as a Research Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. His work focuses on right-wing and free-market advocacy, employing methods such as interviews, social network analysis, and archival research to study political strategy-making and cultural change. His current research examines the international expansion of free-market think tanks in Latin America, supported by the Fulbright Program and the Social Science Research Council. Beginning in 2026, he will join the University of Southern California as Assistant Professor of Sociology.
Research interests include political strategy, transnational advocacy networks, elite-movement dynamics, cultural repertoires of political organizations, and far-right populism. His interdisciplinary approach bridges cultural and historical sociology, with a focus on global processes across Latin America, Europe, and beyond.
Key contributions include analyzing Brazil’s populist right rise (Social Forces, 2025), global protest strategies (American Journal of Sociology, 2024), and digital partisan mobilization (Information, Communication & Society, 2022). Awards include prestigious fellowships from the Fulbright Program and Social Science Research Council.
