Tomris Akın serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at MEF University's Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture (FADA). As a full-time faculty member since 2010, she specializes in architectural education and research with a focus on critical analysis of design processes.
Her academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Architecture from Istanbul Technical University (2001) and a Ph.D. from the same institution (2016). Prior to academia, she contributed to architectural publishing through interviews and essays on architectural criticism.
Dr. Akın's research centers on the interplay between architectural design and structural concepts, examining how built objects emerge from design-representation-construction processes. Her work critically investigates contemporary architectural practices and the methodologies underlying creative realization in the field.
She actively shapes architectural discourse through projects including the Turkish Pavilion at the 2018 Venice Biennale (Vardiya: The Shift), MEF FADA's Design and Build! Studio, and the Manifold İş Üstüne podcast series exploring designers' workflows. Her 2017 collaboration on the Tipsiz - Betonart Summer School further demonstrates her commitment to experimental architectural education.
Within university infrastructure, Dr. Akın contributes to the FADA Design Lab and FADA Lab ecosystems, integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on studio experiences. Her mentorship approach emphasizes practical skill development through the Design and Build! program, where students engage directly with construction processes under her guidance.
