Tomoko Shibata is a Senior Lecturer in Japanese Language at Princeton University, specializing in Japanese pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, Phonology, and Psycholinguistics. Her current research focuses on prosody acquisition of Japanese as a second language.

- M.A. in Japanese Pedagogy, University of Iowa
Before joining Princeton in 2005, she taught Japanese courses at the University of Iowa as a full-time instructor and teaching assistant, and also for Princeton's Ishikawa program (external). Her work bridges linguistic theory and language teaching methodologies.
