Tommy Thompson is a Research Geneticist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service and an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University. He leads the national ARS pecan breeding program, the largest of its kind globally, focusing on developing superior pecan cultivars and rootstocks. His research spans genetics, plant breeding, and crop improvement, including work with sunflower, alfalfa, and other crops. He has held roles at Purdue University, North Dakota State University, and West Texas A&M University, contributing to graduate education and advising students.
