Tommaso Rughi is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Economics of Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, where he earned his PhD in Economics in 2023. His doctoral work included a visiting period in Nice, and he served as a Visiting Researcher at Vienna's Complex Science Hub (CSH) in autumn 2022.
Education:
- PhD in Economics, Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, 2023 (with visiting period in Nice)
His research centers on climate change's socioeconomic impacts, particularly employment effects and green technology adoption. He integrates ecological economics with advanced computational methods—including applied econometrics, machine learning, and natural language processing—to analyze innovation patterns in patent data and macroeconomic systems.
Recent publications reveal a focus on green innovation dynamics: analyzing labour-saving heuristics in green patents via NLP, contrasting incremental versus radical innovations in automotive technology, and modeling remittance flows using gravity approaches. This work bridges environmental economics, computational social science, and industrial innovation studies.
Dr. Rughi has served as Tutor for the Advanced Econometrics course in the Master of Science in Economics program jointly offered by the University of Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies under Associate Professor Laura Magazzini.
His affiliations include the Complex Science Hub of Vienna (CSH), where he contributed to interdisciplinary complex systems research during his 2022 visiting period.
