Tommaso Alba is an Assistant Professor in Managerial Economics at the Department of Management, Strategy and Innovation (MSI) within the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at KU Leuven. His research focuses on the role of patent trade, enforcement, and intellectual property (IP) on firms' innovative performance, combining patent data, litigation records, and industry information to model structural economic relationships.
Education includes a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto (2023), MAs in Economics from the University of Udine (2016) and the University of Graz (2016), and a BA in Commerce and Economics from the University of Udine (2014). He is affiliated with Massey College and the School of Advanced Studies at Udine.
His current research project, 'Startup acquisitions, competition and innovation in adjacent markets' (2023–2025), explores strategic interactions between firms and innovation dynamics. Outside academia, he enjoys skiing and has interests in fantasy literature, RPG games, and medieval history.
