Tommaso Ferretti is an Assistant Professor at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa. He holds an LL.M. from the University of Pisa, an M.P.A. from LUISS School of Government, and a Ph.D. in Management from McGill University. His research focuses on the intersection of international strategy, sustainability innovation, and global governance, particularly examining how small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets can achieve Sustainable Development Goals through impact investing and public policies.
Previously, Ferretti worked as a consultant at the International Trade Centre (ITC), managing projects to enhance the sustainability and inclusiveness of global value chains in sectors like cocoa (Ghana), iron and steel/horticulture (Zimbabwe), and coconut (Caribbean). He co-authored the ITC’s Coffee Guide, a leading industry handbook. He continues collaborating as a special advisor on SMEs’ access to finance for the Alliances for Action Program.
His funded research includes SSHRC grants examining global sustainability standards networks and Telfer School grants exploring impact investment enablement in Caribbean/Sub-Saharan Africa. Key research areas include innovation policies, knowledge-based markets, and organizational capabilities.
