Tomiko Brown-Nagin is Dean of Harvard Radcliffe Institute, Daniel P.S. Paul Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard Law School, and Professor of History in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in US Social, Political, and Legal History from Duke University (2002), a J.D. from Yale Law School (1997), and degrees from Furman and Duke. Her research bridges legal history and civil rights, with seminal works like Civil Rights Queen (2022) and Courage to Dissent (2011), which earned the Bancroft Prize. She chairs major University initiatives, including the Presidential Committee on Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery and the Open Inquiry Working Group. Her leadership spans academic freedom, slavery reparations, and interdisciplinary research. Awards include the Coif Book Award and Darlene Clark Hine Award. She advises on Supreme Court jurisprudence and civil rights policy, with frequent media commentary.
