Tomasz Lisiecki

Tomasz Lisiecki serves as Professor at the Department of String Instruments, I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan, where he has led the cello class since 1999. He is President of the Pro Cello Foundation (founded 2007) supporting young Polish cellists and co-organizes the Philipp and Xaver Scharwenka International Chamber Music Festival in Szamotuły with pianist Paweł Mazur.

His educational background includes:

• Graduated cum laude from A. Rubinstein State Music High School in Bydgoszcz
• Graduated cum laude from I. J. Paderewski Music Academy in Poznan (1999)
• Advanced studies with Prof. Kazimierz Michalik in Warsaw
• Baroque cello studies at Universität der Künste Berlin (2003-2005) under Markus Möllenbeck and Phoebe Carrai
• Ph.D. in Arts (2012) on chamber compositions of F. Chopin and X. Scharwenka

Lisiecki specializes in cello performance across romantic, contemporary, and early music repertoires. His research focuses on chamber music interpretation, particularly Chopin and Scharwenka's works, informed by historical performance practices. He actively performs internationally as both soloist and chamber musician with ensembles including Poznań Philharmonic, Arte dei Suonatori, and Capella Cracoviensis across Germany, France, Japan, and other countries.

His major honors include:

• Double recipient of Poznań Mayor's Prize for pedagogical excellence (2006, 2010)
• National Medal of the Commission of National Education (2018)

Lisiecki maintains significant educational influence through jury service at major competitions (K. Wiłkomirski International Cello Competition, Pro Cello Foundation Competition), masterclasses at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre and Summer Academy of Music in Żagań, and nationwide workshops for the National Children's Fund since 2014. His students consistently win international cello competitions.

He directs the Pro Cello Foundation's initiatives and annually organizes the Szamotuły Cello Master Courses alongside the International Chamber Music Festival, establishing a major training hub for cellists in Central Europe.
