Tomás Bartoletti is a Senior Lecturer at ETH Zürich’s Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, and Principal Investigator of the Ambizione Project on economic entomology and global capitalism. His research explores the intersections of science, empire, capitalism, and environmental history, with a focus on pest control in tropical plantations and Swiss-Latin American scientific exchanges. He holds a PhD from the University of Buenos Aires and has held fellowships at the European University Institute, ETH Zürich, and institutions in Germany and Austria.
His research projects include the history of pest control methodologies in colonial contexts and an examination of Swiss naturalist Johann Jakob von Tschudi’s colonial legacies through the Naming Natures exhibition. He is an associate editor of Environmental Humanities and Commodity Frontiers Journal.
Bartoletti’s work integrates indigenous perspectives and material culture studies, addressing the coloniality of science and contemporary environmental challenges. His funded projects include the Ambizione Grant (Swiss National Science Foundation), ETH Zurich’s Career Seed Award, and Agora Scheme funding for public engagement initiatives.
