Dr Tom Zanker is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Classics and Ancient History at the School of Humanities, University of Western Australia, where he has been affiliated since 2025. His academic journey includes a BA (Hons) in Classics and Philosophy from the University of Canterbury and a PhD in Classical Philology from Princeton University. Prior to UWA, he held positions at Amherst College (as Assistant then Associate Professor), Harvard University (as College Fellow and Lecturer), and conducted postdoctoral research at Heidelberg University under an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship.
Research Interests: Dr Zanker's work spans four interconnected domains:
- Latin literature from the 1st century BC to AD
- Early Greek poetry (specializing in Homer and Hesiod)
- Interdisciplinary studies of contemporary linguistics and philosophy of language
- Intellectual history and classical reception studies
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on metaphor analysis, Horatian studies, and classical reception in the Philippines. Recent works explore José Rizal's engagement with antiquity and conceptual metaphors in Latin poetry, reflecting his cross-cultural and linguistic methodologies.

Current projects include co-authoring a Roman poetry textbook and editing a new Loeb Classical Library edition of Horace's Satires, Epistles, and Art of Poetry.
