معرفی
Dr. Tom Whyman is a Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, where he has been employed since 2023. He is part of the ERC/UKRI KantianDESERT research project and previously held teaching positions at the University of Warwick, University of Hull, and Durham University after completing his PhD at the University of Essex.
His research intersects Frankfurt School critical theory, moral philosophy (particularly influenced by the 'Oxford Quartet' - Anscombe, Foot, Midgley, and Murdoch), and post-Kantian continental philosophy. Core research themes include:
- Conceptions of 'the human being' and 'nature' in the climate crisis context
- Ethics of parenthood under ecological emergency conditions
- Relationships between desert, recognition, and need
- German idealism (Kant to Kierkegaard) and Marxist philosophy
Recent publications demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with environmental ethics, political activism, philosophical methodology, and reinterpretations of continental philosophers. His scholarly output consistently addresses urgent contemporary issues through historical philosophical frameworks, with emerging focus on climate-related ethical dilemmas.
Dr. Whyman teaches diverse philosophy modules including Business Ethics, Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Capitalism, and Philosophy of Race. He coordinates modules on Philosophical Insights, Science/Society/Public Policy, and serves as dissertation supervisor.
