معرفی
Dr. Tom Swinfield is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate affiliated with the University of Cambridge's Conservation Research Institute and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). His work focuses on tropical forest restoration, particularly in degraded ecosystems like the Harapan Rainforest in Sumatra. He employs advanced techniques such as LiDAR, structure-from-motion, and satellite remote sensing to assess forest condition and management efficacy. His research emphasizes cost-effective, evidence-based solutions to balance commercial land use with biodiversity conservation.
Research Interests:
- Tropical forest restoration and management
- Remote sensing applications in conservation (LiDAR, UAVs)
- Counterfactual analysis for REDD+ projects
- Carbon market integrity and biodiversity credits
- Species distribution modeling and ecological recovery
Collaborations: Works closely with the RSPB, Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI), and international partners like Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology (DICE). Active in projects such as the Endangered Landscapes Programme's Cairngorms Connect initiative.
Labs/Teams: Coordinates fieldwork with Harapan staff and collaborates with global researchers on remote sensing and restoration frameworks.
