Dr. Tom Normand is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Art History, University of St Andrews. His research focuses on Scottish Art (19th-20th centuries), British art, Scottish photography (1839–present), and the history of European art. He also explores intersections between art and politics, art and ideas, sociology of art, and contemporary curatorial practices. Normand holds a BA from the Council for National Academic Awards and a PhD from Dunelm.
His recent work includes projects like 'Portfolio: Treasures from the Diploma Collection' (2012) and exhibitions such as 'Ages of Wonder' (2017). He is an Honorary Member of the Royal Scottish Academy and has contributed to over 38 academic outputs, including books and chapters on Scottish visual culture and photography history.
Normand’s activities span public lectures, exhibition curation, and academic conferences. His current research explores the Royal Scottish Academy’s visual culture and photography’s role in Scotland’s artistic identity. He has led projects like 'A Thematic History of Photography in Scotland' (2006) and actively participates in public cultural events.
