Tom McClelland is a Lecturer in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge and Director of Studies at Clare College. He holds affiliations with the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence and participates in the Inner Speech in Action project at UPF Barcelona. His research focuses on philosophy of cognitive science, AI ethics, and the philosophy of psychiatry, particularly exploring concepts like affordances for mental action and their implications for social inequalities. He authored the introductory text *What is Philosophy of Mind?* (Polity Press, 2021), and his work on gendered affordance perception and domestic labor has received significant media attention. McClelland also engages in applied philosophy through business consultancy with Outstanding.Global and volunteers in community woodlands. He has held prior positions at the University of Warwick, Manchester, Glasgow, and studied at Sussex, York, and Cambridge.
