معرفی
Tom Marshall is a Research Fellow in the Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at the University of Oxford’s Department of Psychiatry, affiliated with the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging. His research focuses on neural mechanisms underlying visual attention, particularly the role of the dorsal attentional network in optimizing task-relevant processing and inhibiting distractions. He employs multimodal techniques including MEG, diffusion MRI, TMS, tDCS, and biophysical modeling to study rapidly evolving brain dynamics and their computational implications.
His work investigates functional decomposition of attentional networks across timescales and the interplay between neural oscillations (alpha/beta/gamma bands) and cognitive processes like decision-making and reward-based attention. Recent studies explore how low-frequency stimulation affects perceptual performance and gamma oscillations, as well as hemispheric asymmetries in reward-related tasks.
Key contributions include advancements in neuroimaging tools (e.g., the MAGIC toolbox for TMS control) and visualization methods (raincloud plots). Though no formal advisees or grants are listed, his research group actively publishes on topics spanning neural synchronization, structural connectivity, and oscillatory mechanisms in sensory/motor systems.
