Tom Long

Tom Long is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Warwick’s Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) and Affiliated Professor at CIDE in Mexico City. His research focuses on asymmetrical international relationships, Latin American diplomacy, historical institutionalism, and North American regionalism. He leads the AHRC-funded project investigating Latin America’s role in shaping 19th-century international order with Cambridge’s Carsten-Andreas Schulz, supported by grants from the Fulbright Program, Tinker Foundation, and others.

Research emphasizes small states’ agency and Latin America’s historical contributions to global governance. His books include *Latin America Confronts the United States* (Cambridge UP, 2015) and *A Small State’s Guide to Influence* (Oxford UP, 2022). His work appears in top journals like *International Organization*, *World Politics*, and *Past & Present*.

Teaching includes modules on Latin American politics and North American regionalism. He has been nominated for multiple teaching and research awards at Warwick. His collaboration with Eric Hershberg produced *North American Regionalism: Stagnation, Decline, or Renewal?* (2023) and co-edited volumes on continental policy.
