Dr. Tom Johnson is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in Medieval History at Oriel College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on the social and legal history of fourteenth- and fifteenth-century England, particularly examining how ordinary people engaged with legal institutions, economic systems, and environmental challenges. He is the author of Law in Common: Legal Cultures in Late-Medieval England (Oxford University Press, 2020), which explores vernacular legal practices in local communities. Current projects include a study of economic reckoning practices and a microhistory of a fifteenth-century Suffolk fishing village.
